The publication of a new topo about Font is always an event, and the one by Jacky Godoffe and Jo & Françoise Montchaussé was awaited feverishly. "Escalades Hors-Pistes à Fontainebleau" takes their preceding publication (the famous purple guide) and other best-sellers as a starting point, such as 7+8, Bleau Jardin Public and Bleau de Grès 6.

Since the publication of the purple topo guide "Escalade à Fontainebleau, les plus beaux sites et blocs" in 1999, a lot of new boulder problems have been opened. Rather than just publishing a second edition, a completely new guide has been delivered by the authors. As the name "Escalade hors piste à Fontainebleau, 6 et +" indicates, this new guide focuses on 6th grade and harder problems outside the circuits. This is a clear differentiation from Bleau De Grès Six, which takes the circuits as a starting point, and contains a lot of 5th grade boulder problems but no 7th or 8th grade problems.

The hierarchical treatment of the magical forest (the area is split into geographical zones, sectors and reference boulders, e.g. Nemours > Dame Jouanne > Angle Parfait) in combination with colour codes, makes it easy to find your way around. Every page contains a selection of boulder problems in the 6th to 8th grade, and a diagram summarizing the distribution of the boulder difficulties in that particular area. The drawings are extremely precise, as well as the access maps and the position of the different boulders (thanks to the GPS system!)

But we will not unveil everything here: you will discover a lot of smart touches in this new guide book, and of course a lot of new boulders!

Ah, and a last thing that pleases us: the guide contains a lot of "citizens' reminders", to keep in mind that the forest and the boulders must be preserved, so that we can still climb there tomorrow:
