Change rules ? - thiclopa (25-05-2009 16:49)
It has been done without arete for years and you'd simply change the rule to tick it ??? If it says without arete THIS IS WITHOUT arete...to do 7a
tchiclopa.. - Anonymous (25-05-2009 22:58)

Hold left of arete - CJ (22-05-2009 17:51)
Hi,

does anybody know how this boulder is defined? It says without the arete, but there is a reasonable crimp/pinch just to the left of the arete with a fair amount of chalk on it. If you use this crimp the problem feels more like 6b-6c. I usually just walk away from messy eliminates like this, but I got caught by this one ;-)
keep it simple? - Anonymous (25-05-2009 16:18)
Hi!

if it felt 6b/c to you, vote that grade!

I did it the way you described and the same for everyone I saw on the problem. All the topos mentioning the problem just say "no arete".

On the other hand, I think I saw some recent pictures of jo montchaussé repeating the problem for some photo-session, and he seems to use some horizontal crimpers that I remember to be smaller, but sharper than the vertical crimp/pinch.

however, I think that to make that method "mandatory", you should define an overly complex eliminant rule, and you should also consider that the method with the crimp/pinch is a much more established (and logical) version...
Thanks... - CJ (26-05-2009 00:47)
for the response.

@ghisino: I think I have seen those same photos - they got me wondering... using those crimps would be pretty hard with my fat fingers ;-)

I think it feels a bit easier for me due to my height (186cm). This makes a blind reach to the sidepull from the starting holds a lot easier.

P.S. I will vote (as soon as I've registered...)
different - Anonymous (26-05-2009 02:29)
cool

for me (170 cm) and for others of similar height, the hard move was not at all reaching the sidepull, but making the next move...
OK... - CJ (26-05-2009 10:15)
I can understand that, that move was a bit technical, but I found that once you found the right footholds the it was easily repeatable.

I guess that's the beauty of climbing - it is a unique experience for everyone...

right of the nice girl's face (but left of the arete :-p).
vertical flake/crimp, full of chalk.

It's not an intermediate, it changes totally the sequence. it is :
-from the jug, go right hand on the debated vertical
-left foot on the jug (hand-foot)
-left hand slopey undercling far left, almost in the line of "smash". You are fully opened.

anyway, "dejà prises" girls are always the better looking, it's a sort of a natural law... :D
-move up on the left leg and fall left hand on the last crimp (where the original method arrives right hand)
